Gender and Biodiversity: Ayacucho and San Martin - Preliminary Results of the Research Study - eerste uitgave

This book is the outcome of a research study that attempts to identify gender differences as regards knowledge and practises related to biodiversity resources and their management. The study was carried out in the departments of Ayacucho and San Martin. Its aim was to identify the specific demands of small producers of the selected communities, as well as the similarities and differences according to culture or social and natural conditions of each area under study. This analysis was carried out based on seven specific themes: world view, gender roles and relations, state of biodiversity, knowledge of biodiversity according to gender, practises in management and conservation of biodiversity according to gender, food security and use of biodiversity, state of community development and gender-sensitive alternative sustainable development. The value of the ample knowledge held by men and women on the fauna and flora of the great biological and cultural diversity of the areas under study, as well as the spirit of participation and solidarity they manifest are extraordinary starting points that deserve to be studied at greater depth and in a broader sense, in order to offer the population in those areas the quality of life they deserve, preserving and developing their valuable natural resources and opening new options for their sustainable use.
