He was born in Korea in 1903, "in an isolated grass-roofed village," Kang was educated in Japan, returned to Korea to teach in a missionary school, and was jailed for a year for joining a revolt against Japanese domination. then he came to America in 1920 to attend Harvard University when he wrote "THE GRASS ROOF" his first book and the first novel published in the United States by a Korean-American. . As a child in Korea, Kang was educated in both Confucian and Christian missionary schools.[5] In 1921, he fled Korea because of his anti-Japanese, pro-independence activism; he went first to Canada (where he briefly studied at Dalhousie University), then to the United States.[2] He received his B.S. from Boston University in 1925 and an Ed.M. in English education from Harvard University in 1927. . Kang's next two books published in the 1930's were autobiographical, one concerning his childhood in Korea, the other about his American experiences and the "Making of an Oriental Yankee." . An oriental rug is a heavy textile, made for a wide variety of utilitarian and symbolic purpose, produced in "Oriental countries" for home use, local sale, and export. Oriental carpets can be pile woven or flat woven without pile, using various materials such as silk, wool, and cotton. Examples range in size from pillow to large, room-sized carpets, and include carrier bags, floor coverings, decorations for animals, Islamic prayer rugs (sajjadah), Jewish Torah ark covers (parochet), and Christian altar covers. Since the High Middle Ages, oriental rugs have been an integral part of their cultures of origin, as well as of the European and the North American culture. Geographically, oriental rugs are made in an area referred to as the "Rug Belt", which stretches from Morocco across North Africa, the Middle East, and into Central Asia and northern India. Since many of these countries lie in an area which today is referred to as the Islamic world, oriental rugs are often also called "Islamic Carpets", and the term "oriental rug" is used mainly for convenience. Joseph Alois Schumpeter (February 8, 1883 - January 8, 1950)[3] was an Austrian political economist. He was born in Moravia, and briefly served as Finance Minister of German-Austria in 1919. In 1932, he emigrated to the United States to become a professor at Harvard University, where he remained until the end of his career, and in 1939 obtained American citizenship. Schumpeter was one of the most influential economists of the early 20th century, and popularized the term "creative destruction", that was coined by Werner Sombart. The source of Schumpeter's dynamic, change-oriented, and innovation-based economics was the Historical school of economics. Schumpeter's work on the role of innovation and entrepreneurship can be seen as a continuation of ideas originated by the Historical School. Schumpeter's most popular book is probably Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy. While Marx predicted that capitalism would be overthrown by a violent proletarian revolution, which actually occurred in the least capitalist countries, Schumpeter believed that capitalism would weaken by itself and collapse. Specifically, the success of capitalism would lead to corporatism and to values hostile to capitalism, especially among intellectuals. The author establishes the thesis that a socialist form of society will inevitably emerge from an equally inevitable decomposition of capitalist society. Pointing out that socialism may mean many things, Professor Schumpeter constructs a blueprint of the kind of socialism that would work and would not d would not compare unfavorably with fettered capitalism. He observes that there is no necessary relation between socialism and democracy; one can exist without the other. But on the other hand, they are not incompatible; socialism can be run on democratic principles. The author draws conclusions on what a socialist-democratic regime may entail that will prove shocking to the orthodox and stimulating to the unorthodox. Schumpeter defined democracy as the method by which people elect representatives in competitive elections to carry out their will.[31] This definition has been described as simple, elegant and parsimonious, making it clearer to distinguish political systems that either fulfill or fail these characteristics.
