Nowadays, many non-English universities implement programs, creating a forum for national and international students. This situation requires that non-native lecturers master not only the discipline but also the language and the rhetoric of English lectures. Additionally, non- native students attending programs in English speaking universities face a similar situation, where language is not enough but they need to know this academic genre. This book adopts a multidisciplinary theoretical approach, drawn on sociolinguistics, linguistics, and literary studies, to describe the rhetoric of lectures specifically the use lecturers make of narratives in the classroom. A cross-disciplinary exploration in five academic disciplines sheds some light on the types of narratives, the narrative function, the narrative structure, and the linguistic features that articulate narratives in the lecture.
