No one can form an idea of the difference between the performance of this, or any other piece of music, by a German orchestra, and the orchestra of any other nation, who has not heard both. One of the highest gratifications which a successful composer can enjoy, must be that of having his productions executed in such style, and in so admirable a manner. When the uproar which the overture excited had ceased, all eyes and opera-glasses were at once directed towards the stage, and we watched with impatience for the appearance of the idol of the night.
