Leiden: Brill, 2013. First edition. Hardcover. Fine. Octavo. xxi, (1), 176pp. Indices and bibliography. Text in English and Hebrew. Green buckram lettered in white with red band near top of spine. Illustrated with 4 photos of MS 798. A fine, as new copy. The Genizah Psalms (MS 798 of the Antonin Collection) is a Hebrew document of messianic character, apparently presenting itself as the work of David. It is taken by some to date to the time of the second temple, and to be approximately contemporary with some of the literature of Qumran, while others regard it as a medieval composition. From the point of view of a classical hebraist, David M. Stec explores how this text relates to classical Hebrew literature as a whole and considers how viable it is to regard it as a genuine constituent of that body of literature. He presents an edition of the Hebrew text and English translation, together with an introduction, commentary and analysis of language. Volume 57 in the Brill series "Etudes sur la Judaisme Medieval." (EJM). Also Volume 5 in the "Cambridge Genizah Studies Series, Brill, 2013, 5, Leiden: Brill, 1997. First edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Octavo. xi, (1), 438, (4)pp. Indices. Blue cloth lettered in gilt, with publisher's device on front cover. An ex-library copy with rubber stamps on title & at bottom of text block and a library pocket on rear pastedown. This volume brings together essays written over two decades by a leading authority in the field. The collection includes 2 recent essays that are published here for the first time. The articles cover major aspects of the discussion of Jewish apocalypticism, in relation to the Hebrew bible, the New Testament and the Hellenistic-Roman world. Distinctive strengths of the volume include clusters of essays on the Sibylline oracles and on the relationship between apocalypticism and wisdom. A section of the book is devoted to studies on Daniel.
