Each day on average, some 2,000 children are reported as missing or runaway in the United States alone. Some are simply at a friend’s home or have forgotten the time while at the shopping mall and have caused enough concern for their parents to contact authorities. Others are not so lucky. While some are abducted or lured away from their homes, others feel forced to run away. This is the story of one such runaway child. Jacob Knightly comes from what has been commonly referred to and accepted in mainstream America as the middle-class “dysfunctional family.” After suffering the loss of friends and home, he endures serious family abuse with which he struggles to cope. He is driven to the brink of suicide and teeters on the edge until he finds friendship with Stanley. As the situation at home worsens, Jacob’s life becomes more tormented and he must escape.
