ca. 96 S. ; Illustr.; 29 cm. Sehr gutes Ex. - Englisch u. Schwedisch. - I'M LOOKING at a photograph of a brother. He has a birthmark resembling a hidden treasure map. He has a cross around his neck. I've never had a brother. Instead, I have made some of the men in my life into brothers. It is possible to create the families we do not have. To pretend to forget that blood is thicker than water. Right up until we cut ourselves on the sharp edge that demarcates family boundaries, marking the difference between true and false affiliation. This line of demarcation runs deep, and even into language: halfsibling, stepmother, extra father. We can run away from lots of things, but not from our origins. Often we reveal them merely by opening our mouths. No matter what different things siblings talk about, their tone of voice, the melody of their speech, the harmonies in it, are often recognizable. They make a familiar kind of music, tuned to the same key. Family graves also used to be marked with the names of people still alive who would eventually come to rest there. Our affiliations were set in stone even beyond death's door. My dictionary gives the etymology of "family" as [familia a household, the slaves of a household, equiv. to famul(us) servant, slave + -ia]. This will bear the stamp of familiarity to anyone who knows the obligations and expectations of family life all too well. In a family, each member is the servant of all the others. Someone also has to serve as the family narrator, a lonely and often ungrateful task. Family narratives have a multitude of interpretations, specific to each teller. Although biological siblings have the same mother and father, the same memories and upbringing, when they start to interpret their childhoods for each other, the narrative may drive a wedge between them, splitting experience they believed they shared. For better or for worse, we recreate the life we lived in our families of origin. Some of us carry with us the experience of having been given what we needed; so we know now to find it. Others have to invent the things they were missing and never had. Or to repeat their original experience, over and over again. To heal it, or because they can't get enough of it. Separations are always painful. Even essential ones like those between parents and children. Some animals reject their young; so do some people. Others hang on tight. Hang on until the child has to draw back from the parent by force. ... ISBN 9783902675354 Versand D: 4,50 EUR Photographie; Familie, [PU:Salzburg : Fotohofedition,]<

Sweden 2009. Family and memory are the leitmotifs in Nina Korhonens book series conceived as a trilogy. Rewind, The Photographs is the continuation as well as the conclusion of her examination of issues of identity and self-discovery, picking up on her two previous books with the Swedish publishers Journal, i.e. Minne. Muisto. Memory (1997) and Anna Amerikan mummu (2004). In Minne. Muisto. Memory the artist revisited the scenes of her childhood and cast young models in those roles. In Anna Amerikan mummu she drew the life portrait of her grandmother, an exceptional woman who emigrated to the United States early on; in the book the granddaughter / photographer enters into an intense, photographic dialogue with her. In Rewind. The Photographs the self-portraits and the family scenes blend once again into an emotionally charged image which draws its strength from subtle moments of feeling that allow associations with love, death, joy and pain. , English, Year2009, Illust.
