In the interest of keeping the volume a manageable size, this year's volume excludes analytical essays and book reviews (these have been relegated to a new Brill research journal, Journal of Muslims in Europe). Country reports are presented for 46 countries roughly coinciding with the region covered by the Council of Europe (Belarus is included; the Vatican, Andorra, Monaco, and San Marino are left out). Each report summarizes developments pertaining to Muslim populations, Islam and the state, main Muslim organizations, mosques and prayer houses, children's education, higher and professional education, burial and cemeteries, "chaplaincy" in state institutions, religious festivals, halal food, dress codes, publications and media, family law, interreligious relations, public opinion and debate, and major cultural events. The four editors are affiliated as follows: Jørgen S.
