Institutional law is to a large extent the poor relation in the literature on the EU''s constitutional order, particularly compared to that on the Community''s legal system and the protection of fundamental rights. With the increase in the complexity of Community and Union decision-making, some familiarity with how the institutions operate has become useful, even essential, across the entire gamut of Union activity.
