Erste Ausgabe dieses schönen wissenschaftlichen Werkes über englische Muscheln mit fein kolorierten Tafeln und englisch-französischem Paralleltext. - Mit einem 111 Personen umfassenden Subskribentenverzeichnis, mit Angaben über kolorierte oder unkolorierte Exemplare. - Der englische Naturforscher Mendes da Costa (1717-1791) war einer der ersten jüdischen Mitglieder der Royal Society of London, deren Bibliothekar er auch wurde. Sein besonderes Interesse galt den Conchylien, über die er nicht nur forschte, sondern auch eine große Sammlung anlegte, die selbst Pallas bei seiner Reise nach London besuchte. - Stellenweise leicht stockfleckig bzw. gebräunt.
